Rebecca Paddack raced the 3200M “fresh” for the first time in her four-year track career for Granada. The senior crushed her previous best, which she ran in a time trial during cross country, by 44 seconds. Her unofficial time of 11:08 would be one of the top 5 times in the state so far this year and earned 1st place honors at the Kiwanis-Bellarmine Classic at Los Gatos High School.
Coach Mattern had been telling Becky that she had a good shot at running a state qualifying time this season in the 32. Becky wasn’t too enthusiastic about it, as her focus is on breaking the 5 minute barrier in the 16. But in an email today, Paddack wrote to Coach Mattern, “I decided that i like the 3200 now; it isn’t so bad.”
She needed to run fast…she needed to get home and get ready for the Junior Prom. (Coach John did offer to do her hair for free, but surprisingly Becky declined the offer.)
